The tradition of “kissing the rock” to mark a runners completion of the Hardrock 100 mile course started in the mid 1990’s when Run Director Dale Garland decided that a nearby rock would suffice for a finish of the then low key (albeit extremely difficult) event. In the 30 years since, the finish rock painted with the Hardrock logo and the surrounding area has become mythic in the sport of ultrarunning. I was tasked with updating the finish chute to better represent the Hardrock brand, mining culture of the area and brand partners. I went to work designing and building a new finish arch structure. The result is a more permanent structure which ties to the rustic nature of the course and the area. The now iconic finish area is captured by media members from around the world every year, as athletes complete their journey of 100 miles around the San Juan mountains in southwest Colorado.

In 2023, Run Steep Get High Media introduced the production of a livestream for the entire 48 hour event, which included a live interview set in the gym of Silverton High School. I worked closely with their team to design, plan and build out the live set to match the aesthetic of the finish and the event.
